Great History

The first Hunter Rendezvous on the Chesapeake was in 1993. There was one each year through 1997. Beginning in 1999, the Hunter Owners Rendezvous are held every other year and planned by the owners through the Bay Hunter Sailing Associations. We have had support from Hunter and the two Bay dealers, Norton's and Tidewater. All the Rendezvous have been held at Zahniser's in Solomons because of their support and their central location. Each year has been another "boring weekend in paradise" for those of us who have attended. Getting together with other owner/sailors whom we don't see on a regular basis and hearing from the Hunter supporters makes each of these weekends special. Usually, there are owners who have travelled great distances to attend, e.g., Texas, New England. This year should be no exception. So, if you are one of the 50% who don't rendezvous in this survey, try it; check us out.

Of all the Places!

Gang: Sorry for sneaking this in under this topic, but I felt this was one way to get it seen by those who might care. I avoid almost all internet forums; I have seen the vitriol that gets spewed on so many. I would have though sharing a few positive thoughts about our sailing experiences would have been immune from (what I perceive as) attacks upon one another. I happened to be reviewing last week's "What sailing has taught me.." posts. I'm sad to say that "Buzz Dunital" (re-read the pseudonym and you'll catch the drift) seems to have posted a note that has nothing to add to the topic, but that is pointedly, sarcastically (and seemingly without jest) belittling the posts of one or several others on the topic. I think I, "Exhilarating but humbling, "Heavy Weather Solo," "Flying on the Wing" and perhaps others all made a positive contribution to the forum. I'm sorry to say that I don't think "Buzz" did. Where did the attitude come from? I believe that we as a group should police such posts - but I'm not sure how that can be accomplished. An ongoing battle of posts certainly isn't the way - that is what happens in so many other forums. I did want to take this ONE opportunity to point out the problem, however, and perhaps maybe the administrators can block this one source. Or maybe it is best that we all just ingore such things from here on out. And by the way, "Buzz," speaking as a nuclear engineer, there is no need to "difuse" a nuclear reactor; a reactor is quite different in design from a bomb. But I guess, from your perspective, no one should ever profess any level of expertise about anything as a way of sharing thoughts with anyone, and especially not in any informal communication. Now let's all just get back to talking about sailing and limit ourselves to POSITIVE contributions.

Summer Rendezvous

My wife and I belong to the U.S. Power Squadron. Every year our squadron holds a rendevous on Long Island Sound. For the past two years it has been at Pilots Point Marina Westbrook, CT. Its a great sail from Bridgeport and a great time for all. We noticed that there are a lot of O'Day'd on the western part of the sound. To bad there is no club or group in the area to hold an O'Day rendevouz

Coming to rendevous' by boat not requred

I'd guess that at least 1/3 of the people who come to the Chesapeake Bay Rendevous come by land--some even by air. Going to rendevous' that aren't in your own back yard is best way to turn names online into friends whose boats are in waters where you'd like to sail. You're in GA...Plane tickets from Atlanta to Dulles and BWI are fairly reasonable 'cuz they're both destinations where Delta has a lot of competition...it's an hour's drive from either airport (although Blye and I managed to turn it into nearly 4 from Dulles by missing the exit off I-95) to Solomon's Island. If there isn't room in your budget or you don't have enough FF points for a plane ticket and rental car, it's one LONG day's drive--about 11 hours--from Atlanta, straight up I-85 to I-95 to D.C., and then hang a right to get to Solomons. The Holiday Inn is within walking distance...their 21 day advance purchase rate is about $90/night. There are plenty of B&Bs that are even closer...they're a little higher. If you drive, make a real vacation out of it and see Annapolis and D.C. too. Worst case, you'll make new friends, get a ride on someone's boat in the "Hunter Cup" regatta on the Chesapeake, make a fool of yourself in the blindfold dinghy race, maybe win a pretty good door prize, learn something, stuff yourself with very good food, and party with some of the nicest group of sailors anywhere.

Rendezvous

We'd love to come to a gathering, especially of 25ft and longer boats, on the west coast, (SF Bay if pos.) We just bought a center cockpit 32 and have a lot of upgrading & things to do. The boat was in southern california, and we will sail on SF Bay. In the back of our minds is a trip a year from this fall to the Sea of Cortez, so we have a LOT to learn from other owners and what they have done to their boats.

Just Returned From Langley WA Rendezvous

Just returned from an absolutely really great HAPS (Hunter Association of Puget Sound) rendezvous at Langley WA, on Whidbey Island. Didn't win the Sombreo throwing contest, didn't win the Tequila pouring contest, drank a fantastic Marguertia created by Dave Jones, and didn't fall in the water. Good turnout for a mid-May with rain forcased every day. Something like 16 boats showed up ranging in size from 23 feet to 45 feet. Rendezvous credits to co-hosts Bob and Chris Ridenour and Tim and Shanon Sara. GREAT three-day party!!! Even our boat cat Schnurlie was worn out - see picture attached taken on return trip.
