The name of that boat is Money Pit. There are soo many boats ready to sail today on the market for such a low price right now, do not get something that will nickle and dime you. Get something in sailing shape.

BTW I am a surfer too. Still surfing at 45 years old. I too enjoy motor boating, but my wife thinks it is childish when I do that to her!!

What everybody said.

That boat won't get you into sailing, it'll get you into boatbuilding and by the time you're done (and many never finish) you'll likely have spent considerably more on it than a well founded boat in sailaway condition.

In a perfect world where that boat is free and your time, skills and resources are limitless, you're still years away from actually sailing.

i agree with what has been said so far .....haveing said that .....there are three kinds of sailors......the kind that sail....the kind that like to work on them...and the kind that like to talk about it.....at this point in time i am one that likes to work on them lol .....i have been working on an almand 35 for about two years and got her in the water in feb of this year...have had my boat for two years now sept the 15th this year and if i am lucky in my plans i am shooting for a dec/jan splash date..still a long way to go but once it starts back together it will move a little faster ...so like they have said if you would rather be sailing dont shoot another pic of that boat...just find one and take a test run with the seller....even with one in sailable shape there will always be plenty of work.....good hunting and the best of luck to ya...

Walk away. For a couple of thousand put on on your home equity loan, you can sail your boat today. Ask me how I know. A boat that has been sitting (aka "neglected") for 10 years will just suck many more thousands out of your pocket and eventually make you bitter about it. Fall is coming. It's a great time to get a used boat for a good price. Our Lancer 25 cost $2200 and only really needed a coat of paint. We've put around 1100 NM on her so far. We just got back from a 6 day excursion up the rock-bound coast of Maine. The deals are out there.

This boat does look to be a project that will cost you 2 or 3 years. It should be priced at give away, If you are willing to put in the 2 years and the price is very low go for it.

I agree with all of the previous posts, I searched for 10 years before I found Coriolis, All I had to do was replace the flares that were out of date, and then Sailing the next day. I too, am a Surfer, was in the Huntington Beach US Championships in 1968, so I know how "water fever" can affect your judgement. ( Still Surfing at 61)
BTW Recess, that type of " Motor Boating" is the only type I enjoy.

When you start with a boat like that you will be building a new boat from a bare hull. You can make it anything you want, if you have the skills, tools, and persistance to see the job through. There is nothing about a fiberglass boat that cannot be repaired and there is no rule that states that it must conform to anyone's desires but your own. There are many books in and out of print to help you with all of the thousands of details that go into such a project.

As all the previous postings have said: RUN !! RUN AWAY !!! That boat is a P(iece)O(f) J(unnk) It will cost you thousands of dollars and hours. There is a boat 1 slip away from mine that has been a project for 3 owners. The first 2 owners spent many thousands of dollars and years on restoring her and the 3rd owner is now in the process .. the boat is still years and many thousands of dollars away from being complete and when, and if, it is ever done ... it will still be an old boat worth less than a small fraction of what the various owners and put into it. If sailing is your dream, find a boat that is sailable and at least moderately seaworthy that will fit your budget .... Size does not matter !!!

Compare all of the above comments with the comments made about Charlie Cobra's work restoring wooden boats. His work on O-Joy was so extensive that he was saving her from the chainsaws. Only a complete idoit would try to restore such a boat in a slip. It needs to be in a shed with a shop full of tools and good lighting and weather control. The brand name on the boat is of no value at this point only when people can see and touch the finished product will they know the value of the boat. Fully restored 75 year old Buicks are worth far more to some buyers than a new showroom fresh Cadillac.

It's a shame, the boat has / had nice lines... but even if you do it for a living like Charlie Cobra, that's probably one restore project you would want to avoid, the boat seems to be missing both the keel and the rudder.

Find something that isn't in need of a multi year restore project and you'll be much better off.

It is possibly an older Hunter or mabey an S-2 the port light over the galley area has me confused as I can't remember what manufacturer used that. It is probably a mid 80's vintage and looks quite neglected. The hull ibentification number will give you the info you seek, get permission to look at it.

I agree with the one of the first reply's..there are SO many decent boats out there that are ready to sail that are not a POS that you should consider not driving by this boat anymore. Yes, it's tempting but this avenue could possibly, turn you off of sailing forever. Or at the very least not allow you to ever see the water (except from your bath tub!).

Is this yacht sitting on top of Mt. Ararat previous owner being a guy name Noah? Do you even know how much they're asking. Free is too much. If it's been sitting for as long as you mention and there is and open hatch and it is in Puerto Rico, there will probably be massive interior damage from water and weather, not to mention ten years of rodent droppings, Bat Guano and other gifts from assorted critters. Just getting it to a body of water is gonna cost you a bundle. I don't agree with the guys saying walk away. Run away as fast as you can and don't look back!! Fair Winds and Full Sails....

I started surfing in the 60's in SO CAL. Rode some gnarly waves with Hobie Alter, like he's the guy that builds cats. Also Corky Cornell and Bob Englund who later became Freddy Kruger. It is a double spreader mast so it's not very old. However, it has been completely stripped. The hatches, winches, sheet stoppers, cleats. The cabin top and decks are probably balsa core and totally saturated with water. It was probably some one's dream project and lost interest. You live in PR and there are not many used, cheap, boats available. By the time you replace all the gear, never mind life lines, sails, standing and running gear, you are better off looking up the boats for sale in the All At Sea magazine that is distributed through out the islands.
Not sure what your budget is. Will the boat be kept at Isleta Marina or Puerto del Rey or one of the other locations around Fajardo?
There is a Pearson 28 in ST. Croix for under 10K in nice shape. There are others in Independent boat yard in St. Thomas.
Even the "SE VENDE" sign is torn. Don't go back and start learning terminology. I started sailing in STT and used to go to Fajardo and raced in other people's boats. Do the same and get to know the sailors there. They know where there are boats for sale. MUCHO CUIDADO!!

Looking closely at this boat I think it is on a trailer, is probably a center boarder. Can only be considered a bare hull for the purpose of potential. I looked at many boats and bought hull shape and length when i bought knowing full well that I was planning a custom built 30 foot boat that would be kept for the rest of my useful life.
Only if you work very efficiently can you even expect to make wages refurbishing a relic and selling it. If you can find boats that are in good shape and repair but need cosmetics that is a different equation.
