How often (or do you) give the wind a little boost with your engine? Frequently? Seldom? Would you sooner own a Bayliner than consider it? What kind of conditions prompt you to fire up the engine with the sails up? And do you have any tips or tricks for making sure you get full power with no harmful side effects?

Motor sailing

I will motor sail when cruising on vacation and I have a distance to go and the wind is not strong enough, coming from the right direction, or boat speed drops below 5 knots. Other than that I would rather sail.

Yes, I Motor Sail

Yes I admit it, I love to sail and often just sail around with nowhere in particular to go. But when you have make good time, it's time to hoist the ole Iron Jib. Light air is usually a good excuse. It helps in getting to windward. I often do it hoping conditions will change, and I can throttle back and hope to turn the damned thing off. It should be noted though, that sometimes it is wise to motor with reduced sail when conditions turn brisk. You paid for that motor, use when you need it. If anyone says anything, Tell ,em " It needs to be run once in a while."
