I just purchase a used 27' hunter from a friend. it is loaded with lots of options I am curious how it will handle. I was trained and rented a Baltic 39' and I know there will be a big difference but just looking for a day cruiser on lake michigan to have a little fun. can any owners give me some insight? thanks

The archives and especially the messages you will find on the page dedicated to info on this particular model will give you ample opinions. There have been a number of threads dealing with shoal verses the deeper hull and how the craft handles to windward. Ours is an 1982 shoal draft and we are well pleased. What you will probably find immediately is a challenging prop walk to port when in reverse and if you have the shoal draft it will turn very tight. It is a comfortable boat to sail, does not demand excessive heeling, and is very forgiving of mistakes. Read the archives and post again with questions. We who sail these Cherubini "classics" seem ready to brag about them. Andy

I had a 1979 H-27. Bought it from the original owner in 1983 and sold it in 1998. I used it mostly for day sailing, but also spent many weekends and week long cruises on it. I did many upgrades over the years; RF w/150, wheel steering, cockpit cushions and some custom woodwork inside. The only negative was that it is uderpowered with the 8HP Yanamr. On the plus side, it always started and never "conked out" on me. I found the boat to sail very well. When the wind picks up, reef the main before reducing the headsail. This removes all the weather helm.

'82 Hunter 27
I've had an '82 Hunter 27 since '95 and I love the damn boat!! True, she may be somewhat under powered, however, she has never given me any problems. Under Sail, I find her to be very responsive and, dare I say it, fast! She has even gotten me through gale force winds and 18 foot chop (on Lake Erie). I had hoped to have moved up by now, however, I'm in no real hurry... Enjoy!
