Looking for some help for experienced O'Day owners. I just picked up a sailboat that has been in the back of a yard for over 10 years unknown. I am told that its an O'Day, but I have no idea the length, style, model or anything about it. I was also told the last 2 digits of the serial number is the year, but it conflicts with the registration. Also the registration conflicts with the previous owner. If there is anyone that can help me out here it would be appreciated; as far as I can tell its a 1973 or 1974 model O'Day. The rest I am looking from you guys. Thanks for the help, New O'Day owner, I think.

looks like a 17'
Mick your picture sure looks like the 17' O-day I had back in 1980. Great boat light and very responsive. Check where the shrouds meet the fiber glass. The #8 screws need beefed up with backing plate. Great one or two person boat. Add one set of jeffy reef points and sail safely in 12 knots of wind with two people. Good Luck gordon

That is a DS II, 16'9" x 6'3", dsp 575# The serial number should be on the transom outside. It will verify the make model and mfg year/month. They were built between 1971 and 1986 by O'day. I have the same one. Tell us the SN and we can translate for you. Roger

That is a Day Sailer II, I'm not sure of the year, but I'd say 1973 roughly. The HIN will be something like XDYDhhhhM73m or XDYDhhhhmm73 (73 is model year, so use the number actually on your boat) XDY = O'Day, D = Day Sailer, hhhh = Class# aka sail#, M73 would be 1973 model year with "m" being a code letter for the month (won't be an M) or mm73 would be "mm" being a 2-digit month code 01 for January, to 12 for Dec. I have available an owners manual for the Day Sailer II, I've sent copies to a lot of owners for a $7.00 printing/postage charge, e-mail me at daysailermanual@juno.com if you would like to order one.
