Cedar Mills Yacht Club

We belong to the local "marina" yacht club and are glad we do. We use the showers and air conditioned club room with cooking facilities in the hot Texas summers. The club sponors cruises and racing along with a regular series of dock parties/events during the various seasons. We have had a good series of educational seminars taught by our own members and the staff of Valiant Yachts (they are manufactured here at Cedar Mills). The club has a very nice web site. Please visit at www.cymc.org. I am also a member of the United States Sail and Power Squadrons' Dallas Squadron where I teach the Piloting course.

Stockton Sailing Club

Our club owns it's own marina (sailboats only) and the discount on the berth pretty much offsets the cost of membership. We call it a sailing club instead of a yacht club and informality is the rule -- no blue blazers and white slacks for us. The club dates back to the '30s when it was formed by a group of high school kids, some of whom (now in their 80s) are still active members. At least one still races on a regular basis. We have an active racing program and junior sailing program and a myriad of social activities and "cruises" including weekends in the California Delta and "blue water cruises" outside the Golden Gate to Monterey, Half Mood Bay, Tomales Bay and other Northern CA destinations. We're located in Stockton, CA on the Delta about 70+ water miles and about a million tacks from SF Bay. One of our races, the South Tower Race is an over-nighter from Stockton to a bouy just inside the Golden Gate and back. The name of the race harks from the early days of the race when the south tower of the Golden Gate was the windward mark until it was decided to be too dangerous to actually round the bridge tower. It's quite an experience, kind of like running a marathon (I've done two of each and that's enough for me). For me, belonging to the club has added much to my sailing experience plus it's nice to have reciprocal privileges at other clubs. I've enjoyed reciprocal privileges while sailing, but also when just visiting, including Hawaii. No question as to whether it is worth it and whether we'd do it again. Yes to both! + No secret handshake. We're on the web at: http://www.stocktonsc.org/

Tyler Yacht Club

I joined the TYC about 3 years ago. Even though I live 55 miles from the club, it is a benefit being a member. It is sailboats only except for the barge that we use for our commitee boat during races. The dues and slip rental fees are affordable. Our clubhouse and grounds are great with everything we need including an a-frame, ramp and 38 slips. We have scheduled events and parties as well as seasonal series racing. Not only does the club atmosphere provide great fellowship but a community of fellow sailors who share experiece, knowledge and fun times. If I ever were to move away, I would search for a similar club to join and I would probably base my relocation to be close to such an organization.

Rhode Island Yacht Club

We belong to the Rhode Island Yacht Club which is an interesting combination of sailors and motorboaters who, for the most part, seem to co-exist on the hook and at the dock. (One of our members, a power boater, looked lovingly at a Hunter 37 and state flatly that that was his NEXT boat.) The Club is in a great location adjacent to Narragansett Bay with a 2 story clubhouse complete with bar and "gourmet" restaurant. Founded in 1875, RIYC is the oldest Yacht Club in Rhode Island and the 7th oldest in New England. Our Web Site is at http://www.riyc.org. New members always welcome.
