Or fondly referred to as "the boat Club". We have about 350 slips for dinghys up to 48 feet. Of that 350 slips, I'm one of THREE sailboats. As you can see, it's basically a power boat club. The important thing is that we have a great time at the club. We have our own travel lift (35 Ton), also a great bar, and restaurant. The restaruant serves lunch every day and dinners Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mark Johnson

I've been a Yacht Club member on and off for the past 15 years. All clubs are different depending upon your needs. I have found that my boat and I get out much more frequently as a member than not. Many activities are planned throughout the year and it is easier to make plans with people with boating in common. Sure, there are some "drinking clubs with a boating problem" but more clubs genuinely interested in promoting boating activities. I've also found club membership very helpful in improving and learning new boating skills and repair techniques. If you're lucky enough to find a good club, go for it!

Sail Club Membership

I belong to a club because it helps to be around other sailers and there are club races that are fun and tune sailing skills. It is very motivating. The dues are not too much for what you get. It is a non profit operation so the members do all the work, repairs to club facilites, maitanance, etc. For the sailor who takes a sincere interest in sailing and the area he or she sails in, this is a great way to go.

Club Nautique

Our Hunter 290 is part of the Club Nautique charter fleet on San Francisco Bay. When we are not using it, it is chartered by certified sailors or used for sailing instruction. This is a great way to offset the cost of a new boat, although watching others "borrow" your boat takes some getting use to! Benifits include Club Nautique and Ballena Bay Yacht club memberships.

Milltown

We belong to a few different clubs. The first is Milltown Sailing Association. They have a club house here in the marina. They have a meeting once a month along with races and a cruise. We also belong to the Hunter Club but they are about 30 miles away so we don't do much with them. The crusies we have went to were alot of fun. The last club is a real Yacht Club. They only have about 3 sailboats. I think this next year we will drop the Yacht as it is hard to belong to so many clubs.

We belong to the Cape Fear Yacht Club which is located where the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean in Southeastern North Carolina. Our yacht club is relatively new, but very active in the community. Although we don't have our own facilties we sponsor many different kinds of events such as, crusing weekends, PHRF racing, regattas (usually in conjunction with a local waterfront restaurant), raft-ups, fishing events, sea ed programs, and our most important event a youth program that has just recently been recognized by Governor Jim Hunt. Belonging to this group has been a positive experience not only as a new sailer but also as someone new to this area. I invite you to check out our web site and see for yourself at http://www.cfycnc.com/ Mary Ann H22 "A Question of Balance"

Do You Belong

I belong to the New Orleans Power Squadron an affiliate of the United States Power Squadrons. I feel it is worth the money because there is training available from basic seamanship to Celestial Navigation. Thjere are numerous boating activities also.
