My dad served along with three of his brothers. My oldest and youngest uncles never made it back from WW2 and Korea. I lost many close friends in the Vietnam war. I did not have the privilege to serve and I have always felt that I should have. I did work in a defense industry and helped design and build the weapons that our fighting men depend upon to win and keep us safe.

I do not and will not forget.

Normandy

One of my most memorable trips was to Normandy 15 yrs ago. To stand on the bluff overlooking Omaha Beach is amazing. A few of the German concrete bunkers still are there. All those B&W photos we've seen in Life Magazine suddenly came to life. Then we went to the National Cemetery were 1000's of US soldiers are buried. My wife cried, and I was honestly choked up.
It's a huge part of our history and unfortunately our children will soon forget. It you haven't been, put it on the bucket list.

Happy Memorial Day.

Your right

If you go to the tomb of the unknown, and don't feel something, you have no feelings.

I too missed my calling for service. Probably would have been a lifer, I just realized that a little too late in life. It's a young mans game. (Besides I woulda had a hard time saluting some snot nosed punk almost half my age. )

I am however deeply indebted to those who heeded the call and served to make this nation safer, stronger, free-er.

Thank you all.

Spent 3 years U.S. Army Transportation Corps messing about with boats and another 7 years 8" Artillery (Nuke) unit as a willing participant to the ultimate madness. (Glad we didn't fight that one) It seems the desire to find alternatives to sacrificing more lives on the alter of 'right' is lost to humanity. One would think the cemetaries are full enough to inspire a more just world where these people didn't die in vain? May all whose lives were lost rest in peace.

Jonny, You don't salute the "Snot Nosed Punk", you salute the rank/office.
