I have a '79 H25. The non skid is so worn that I can see roller marks left by the last do-it-yourselfer. I would like to paint some new non-skid on my decks but am not sure what to use. I don't want the sandpaper feel that most additives give you. The deck still has some texture to it so I was wandering if a good non-skid paint would do the trick and is there something that I won't have to re-do every two years? Anyone have good luck with a certain brand or method?

...I used an additive that was non-abrasive. I think it was a Z-spar additive, but it might have been Interlux. It did create a finish like adding sand, but it didn't rip your skin off like sand does. Rick D.

Restore the original gelcoat non-skid
If you go to the gelcoat and plastics forum and look for the permanent postings, there is an essay on redoing stippled gelcoat non-skid. It will look completely professional and gelcoat is very easy to work with and fast curing. I got this information (and they can supply the materials , rollers etc too) from Fiberglass Hawaii in Santa Cruz, CA. The owner there is David Collingon. 831 476 7464 Thanks Jim W

I redid my top deck this year and used the one part poly and the manufacturers recommended non-skid additive. It is much finer than sugar or sand and gives very good non-stick qualities without a rough feel. You must keep the paint well stirred and apply with a very small roller. I used a 2" roller, takes a while but turns out great. good luck Craig S/V Wind Toy 1977 H25
