Two of my bigger upcoming projects on my '99 420 will be to replace the a/c and the water heater units, both of which are under the setee. At first I thought they'd come out after unbolting and detaching wires and hoses, but the settee frame is preventing them from simply being lifed out. In fact I can't even get to some of the hold-down screws because the units are so tightly situated. If I tear apart the entire seating area, I would have to not only remove screws but I'd also wind up cutting away some of the frame, which I'm hesitant to do. Am I missing something? Is there a secret to removing the settee?

It's a lot easier than it appears, once you begin removing screws. Ten minutes is about right for removal, twice that to rebuild the settee. Hey, there must be some 420 folks out there who have done this. Where are you guys?

Never pulled mine apart; but as Rick and John have said, I'm pretty sure that you just have to start unscrewing. Eventually the whole boat comes apart. Putting it back together... that's another story. BTW Dan... ck your anchor windless motor. Recently the positive terminal on my motor corroded because a little salt water got onto it. (Seeped under the cleat in the anchor windless locker, down the bolts holding same, and onto the windless motor). Auto electric shop couldn't fix motor. After a long dog and pony show, I finally got another motor from Lewmar's (which bought Simpson-Lawrence 2 years ago) parts supplier, but they are few and far between. $560.00 ! ! for just the motor; ,..... this after telling me that I HAD to buy a new motor-gearbox assembly (for $1100.00) which turned out to be a 3 wire motor w/ a new larger housing that won't fit in the space our current motor-gearbox goes). Finally Dan at Lewmar's Fla. parts location found the correct motor out in his warehouse...... Anyway, ck the motor and put some greese on the pos. and neg. terminal connections to help make sure they don't corrode. Just one more little thing to prevent alot of hassel.
