Do I have something special?

My wife and I purchased a 1972 O'Day 23 two years ago and have enjoyed it immensely on the bay here on the East End of Long Island. We're looking to buy a house, probably inland a bit, and I'm considering selling the boat to help raise a down payment (although it breaks my heart!). My question is this: This particular '72 is a "pop top"--the cabin winds up by nearly a foot to expand the size of the cabin, making it quite comfortable. We also have the complete set of tenting material used to enclose the cabin when it is raised. Is this a rarity that increases the value? Does anyone have any guidance as to the value in good condition, as it is? I'd appreciate any help--and there's always a chance we'll hang onto the boat, by the way! Thanks for any advice you can give! Respond here, or drop me an e-mail at shaw@hamptons.com

Well of course, we all do :)

Joe - Doesn't everyone with a boat have something special? Seriously though - you have the standard boat. A good boat to be sure but not necessarily one rare enough to command a huge premium. Bucnet lists the value of a 1972 O'day 23 at 3000-3500 plus the value of the outboard. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

PopTop

Would be interested in seeing how your canvas looked after it was installed. I also have a 71 poptop and love the extra headroom when on the hook. A question, do you ever sail with the top raised? Aslo with the canvas attached?

Yes, Definately Special

Hello Joe, I own the same boat. She is a great boat and am sorry that you must sell her. She may be a standard boat but still somewhat uncommon. I searched for the style of a POP-TOP for months. I agree with pricing of the earlier response (3000-3500 engine). That is approximately what I have invested in my 23. Please let me know how much you sell her for when you do, I would be very interested in knowing that information - suescumii@hotmail.com. Good luck Antonio
