I have recently installed a Jabsco manual toilet on my sail boat. After installation, I found that after the pump handle is used, it will not stay 'down'. That is, it returns, not to a normal position on the unit, but to an extended position as if pushed upwards by air pressure. The toilet itself seems to be working alright, but I am wondering whether it actually has an airlock which will lead to problems. How do I get rid of this problem?

You have a defective "dry"/"flush" valve
A whole bunch of Jabsco toilets have the same problem. If the toilet is brand new--or less than a year old and still under warranty--you can return it for another one. Or you can call Jabsco for a replacement pump assembly.

Rodney; Try contacting Jabsco at www.jabsco.com. I had a similiar problem and described it on their email forum. I got a response back within a day saying they would replace my entire pump assembly free of charge. It arrived about a week later. Tom LaRocco H376 Follow the Sun

Air lock
Mine is doing the same when the dry/flush valve is not completely on one side or the other. Check this out first before changing the valve. Yves

Before I install the new "throw-away" Jabsco, is there any way to check the wet/dry valve? I hate to go to all the trouble to install a brand new toilet that I have to overhaul next weekend! I'd rather just put up with the leakin' head I've got until I know.

You could buy a better toilet...
I suspect that the unit you bought had been on the self for a while...'cuz the faulty dry/flush valve seems to have been limited to a bunch that were made a year or so ago. However, if you want to be sure to avoid the problem, spend a little more and buy a Raritan Ph II.
