Anyone here have any recent dealings with this magazine? I was given a subscription last year for Christmas. I contacted them in May as I had not received any copies and the answer was they had not published any issues yet ( it is published only 4 or six times- I cant remember) As I still haven't received anything I have tried to contact them by phone and email to no avail. There is an answering machine that asks you to leave a message as "all our operators are busy"!!. Messages are not answered.

I tried the website today but my anti-virus blocked it with a warning.

Who do I complain to in the US about magazines not fulfilling their subscription obligations?

Not happy with it

About 5 yrs ago I had a subscription. It came as scheduled. The articles were superficial and to complete a project you had to purchase another magazine, book or article. Did not renew.

I have the same problem. They have not published since December of last year. It looks like they are still taking subscriptions though. I sent them an email but no response.:cussing:

I finally got an email back from Glenn Justice after I had been emailing and phone for about 3 months. He said they were still going to publish. Did that as of 2 months ago. I have noted on the last couple weeks the DIY and Mad Mariner websites are throwing viruses. Neither of those sites have changed in a month. I really can't figure out anything to do about it.

Try contacting the US Postal system if they are selling subscriptions and then you have mail fraud.

Sounds like you need to focus your energy on other things.... I'd give the thoughful gift giver a call to let them know what happened so they won't waste any more of THEIR money on fruitless gifts.

Richard, you just hurt the DIY publishers more than you may realize. I'm sure that most of the people who just read your post won't be subscribing to their publication anytime soon. Sound like they are going under.

The post may have hurt DIY, but if they are going under the rest of us will be greatful not to waste our money. Isn't that one of the functions of a forum like this?

I had same experience, subscribed several months ago and no issues. Asked for money back, no answer to my email.

Say what? Are you blaming Richard for the demise of DIY?

Wasn't DIY an off shoot of one of the regular glossy magazines, rather than a new standalone product? How about contacting the "parent" magazine?

I don't remember DIY being associated with any other mag. There seems to be some other org called "Mad Mariner" associated with DIY now, according to their phone message.
Ted- I would be quite happy to have "hurt" DIY. They have stolen a good friend's money and, but for the virus on their site, would be stealing more money from others.

I used to get a quarterly magazine that was DIY something that I think was an offshoot of Sailing.

Richard, thanks for the info. Hopefully your post will prevent more from losing money. I hope that is the nail in the coffin. Lousy business plan to accept money from customers and not provide a product until they get enough customers.

I had a subscription a couple years ago, when MadMariner took it over it really went downhill in my opinion, did not renew. Could never figure out what MM was supposed to be up to, their web presence seemed erratic, lack of regular updates to an updated regularly website.

I have initiated a dispute w/my credit card company. I subscribed in 11/2010 and haven't received a magazine all year. Credit card co. is giving me a temporary credit while they investigate. SeaTow also on their website shows the magazine as a partner with discount.
