I am attempting to install a diverter valve in the raw water cooling system side of my Yanmar 2GM20 to make it easier to fill the system with antifreeze for the winter. The hoses are 5/8", and there don't seem to be any diverter valves that size. What are my options?

You should be able to find a T with a cap at an autoparts store. Tim R.

Here's what I did

I have the same engine. I put in a bronze T. In normal use, the T shaft leg is closed by a bronze plug. When I want to winterize, I shut the seacock, take the plug out and screw in a bronze hose barb fitting with a few feet of 5/8' hose attached, and stick that into a gallon of antifreeze. Parts bought from McMaster-Carr.

just take the hose off

the seacock and stick in the antifreeze solution when you run the engine. Taking the hose off the seacock forces you to examine it in the Fall and Spring for any deterioration.

The nice part about a T is...

In an emergency, if you have water in the bilge, you can use one leg of the T to suck the water from the bilge, like an emergency bilge pump.
