I'm curious, has anyone installed a dive platform on a trailer sailer???
I love to go scuba dive but my 23ft dolphin is a bit lacking in space to jump in the water, so I was wondering what you all thought about a dive platform on such a small boat
thanks

I can't visualize a dive platform on a boat that size, but there are other ways to dive from a small boat. My other boat was a 17' center console powerboat, and we would just roll over the gunwale to get into the water. To get out of the water, we would slip out of the BC and tie it to a line hanging overboard, and climb aboard over the small ladder we had hanging on the gunwale.

Might be a little small for what you need - our 6 gallon gas tank lives on it so its mounted higher than usual and we don't have the ladder hanging off the bottom.

I have seen one created by a aussie.

the rudder was changed over to a vertical rising style, (cassette) and then had a large wooden dive platform out back. it was pretty slick but the rudder was the really impressive part.

if I find the pic I'll post later....

Have you considered gearing up and diving out of a dinghy? That's how we handle snorkeling. You can also use the dinghy for a wider range of tasks than a dive platform.

also consider tying the tank(s) to a rope. I dive off a kayak, and put mask fins and snorkel on the kayak. toss the tank over, with a rope attached (and BC inflated), then put it on, and dive down.

or go the brownies hose route, where you have a 25-150' hose attached to the tank, and put the tank in the dingy/kayak.

I'm thinking about switching to side mount diving, I'm currently diving doubles, they are way too big for my little boat lol, even for my small 8ft dinghy

double 130's? 8)

Man, how deep are you going?

I tried to dive off my sailboat, only once. tank was too big and dangerous, even with a rack.

the brownies rig is a nice way to go, if your cleaning the hull, or not too deep. -great for spearing fish too, much faster w/o the tank.

doubles? I hope its those thin US divers types... (30's?)

doubles 100's, I like the stability the doubles offer vs a single tank setup

I have one similar to topcat0399 s but 24" across mounted on my M26S with a telescoping latter attached to it. I just looked at a professional divers platform the same size and his telescoping latter had a mini platform on it about 3 feet under the water. The mini platform folded out with supports, so that you could stand on it while still in the water, and there was a step below that.

fwiw, garlick use to make a 4 step (nesting) ladder. not sure if they still do.

on my original ladder, that was not long enough, so, I got some 2" double braid (about 9') and tied it around the bottom rung of the ladder for a 3rd step.

make it much easier to get on the ladder.

2) 100 cf tanks! jeez! what are you doing, cave diving?, or some deep deco dives?

how long are your dives anyway? I'm getting 3 hours on a 130cf on the 2nd reef (30')

I have the same on my starboard aft side. I also have a telescoping 4 step latter and added a platform on the 4th step. I did this after looking at a professional divers set up which was the same.
