Displacement Weight ?

I'm thinking of buying an 18.5 and note that it displaces 1600 lbs. (dry). Does this also mean its weight is 1600 lbs. ? I want to trailer it but my car manual says it can only haul 1000 lbs. Thank you for any help.

Towing weight

Displacement is the weight unloaded. The towing weight of my 1800 pound displacement Venture 222 was 2500 pounds including trailer, outboard and contents.

Displacement weight vs. towing weight

The displacemnet weight is the weight of the water that the boat will "displace" when it is in the water.Towing weight is the actual weight of the boat,trailer and any gear you have onboard.Both weight are variable depending on how much gear is on board.Most times displacement weight and actual weight are close. However with your towing vehicle capacity of 1000 lbs and boat,trailer and gear I would say that you were well past recomended manufacture towing capacity. My guess is that you would find it is very difficut to tow under thesr condition and would recomend not to!Don't forget to add the trailer weight into your calculations and it becomes part of your towed weight and adds to your towing capacity weight. Sorry for the bad news,sounds like you need a larger tow vehicle

I've got a Mac V-21 and have towed it with my Dodge Lancer,that says 1000lbs towing.It seemed to tow and stop fine but was hell pulling the boat and trailer out of the water,up the steep cement ramps.I've had the car for 12yrs.but if I use it for a tow rig it's not going to last.I bought a 79 chevy P.U.for towing.Its got the V-8 and 4sp.with the granny 1st.Nice and slow for lining the boat and trailer up while coming out of the water.Bigger brakes and more power,plus the truck weighs more than the boat,better for towing.Good luck
