Hello, Has anyone had to replace the two blocks on the cabin top that control the mainsheet. I can't seem to find the exact blocks at places like West Marine/Boat US, although I can get a spring and something similar. Thanks. Linda

replacement sheaves

Sailorgirl, Check out the Ronstan and Schaefer web sites. They have obsoleted lots of blocks, but do sell sheaves in many sizes and materials (plastic, bronze, aluminum) to replace sheaves in the blocks. You will probably have to drill out the pins that hold the sheaves in the blocks, but you can replace the pins with stainless steel machine screws and acorn nuts. The plastic sheaves in old blocks deteriorate because of sunlight UV exposure. Had this happen to my standup blocks on an old O'Day.

Garhauer Marine

Check out the Garhauer Marine site. They sell these type of organizers at very reasonable prices. Very good quality too. There is a good chance that you would need to redrill and tap a new hole for one of the screws.

change out to travler

You might consider upgrading to a travler. Why put money into replacing a bad main sheet system. The boat does not sail to weather with that main sheet. You would love the increased pointing ability!

Replaced mine with schaeffers

Got them at West marine; it is the Schaeffer 5 Series. On the Genoa sheet blocks which have snap shackles I just replaced the sheaves.

traveler question

Yes, I've been thinking of a traveler. Where did you mount yours? And where is the best place for single handling? Thx.

We have the same problem

The mainsheet stand-up blocks on our 82 H27 also need replacing. I have searched, as did our marina, with no sucess. (Thanks for the lead, Benny.)We considered the traveler alternative. I have seen one H27 with a traveler mounted over the companionway in about the same position as the current mainsheet rig. In discussions with those who have more experience I got a resonse, "why a traveler, you don't race, and it is more expensive." Dan is correct that it should point better (there are other factors to consider) but do you need it to point better? I like the relative simplicity of the block system. As of right now the plan is to add block rehabilitation to the winter projects. Andy Baroque
