AMEE (Creelock 34 from Anacortes, P42 from Mukilteo, C&C 27 and Freedom 32 from Everett) fleet was in its sixth week cruising the Discovery Islands when the aft head stopped working. The pump would not bring in sea water for flushing. We limped along in our seventh week using the forward head until we arrived back home. Yesterday, I disconnected the incoming raw water line from the head pump in order to connect a city water hose so that I could lear the line. Judging by the stench I suspect a small critter (fish) found a new home in our through hull and died. After clearing the line and hooking everything together the aft head now works like new. It could have been a whole lot worse. Terry

Yep...it could have...

You haven't lived till you've had to clean the remains of a small squid or octupus out of the head intake, pump, and channel in the rim of the bowl. To make sure your cure was permanent...close the seacock, disconnect the intake line from the thru-hull...stick in a bucket of water that's LIBERALLY laced with white vinegar (at least a quart). Pump the whole bucketful through the toilet. That'll clean out the WHOLE system.

Hi Peggie, thanks for the tip. I'll take ...

your advice to action. BTW, this is my second trip to the islands. Breathtaking experience! Make sure to include that in your itinerary if you are ever in this neck of the woods. Extra special when you have three other boaters to share the experience. We agreed our best sail, a ten, was from Smugglers Cove to Campbell River, BC. beam reach starboard tack across the Strait of Georgia in 15 to 20 knots of wind. The Admiral left a premanent bend in our helm guard from hanging on. Me, I'm still picking bugs out of my teeth. Terry

I'll be in your neck of the woods in Sept

I've been invited to give seminars at the Lake Union boat show. Prob'ly won't be able to explore beyond downtown Seattle this trip, though. HOpe you can make to the show, 'cuz I'd love to put face with your name.

Peggie, ditto. When will you be here?...

I will make every effort to be there. Pike Place Market is close and a neat place to visit. Then the aquarium on the waterfront, Underground Seattle, Smith Tower, Space Needle,... Terry

I'll be at the show Thurs-Sun...

Seminars every morning. A good bit of the rest of the time in the "authors corner" (wherever THAT will be)...some in the Armchair Sailors booth. Sailboatowners.com is sponsoring me to come to the show, and I'm really looking forward to it, 'cuz I've never been to Seattle before. Maybe some you "natives" can introduce me to one or two the better pubs there some evening while I'm there. I don't think I'll have much time during the day to see much except from a distance.

Dont miss peggys seminar in seattle

If your going to the show in Seattle area dont miss peggy hall. She does a great job! Take a note pad cause she will fill your time with loads of great tips or the john, pun intended. We heard her at the Seven Seas cruising Assn meeting in Florida, She alone was worth the entire Show. Great presentation. lots of humor and great info!
