Hello, I have a 1984 Hunter 25.5. Will the mast stay up or do I need to use a temporary headstay if I disconnect the headstay at the turnbuckle to replace CDI flexible furler?
Thanks

Thank you all very much for your advice! I will make sure to secure the mast so it does not bonk me in the head and take out the outboard! This is a very valuable forum!

If you are removing the furler from the forestay. It will be impossible to reinsert the furler back up the forestry. I recommend dropping the mast.

I introduced the ff2 system to Hunter. You are correct there is an internal halyard in the furler extrusion but would also advise replacing the black cap on top of the extrusion as well as it may be worn out as well. The extrusion or furler tube neeeds to come down to be repaired. You will need to attach a messenger line too. Until I have a clearer picture, we need to talk first. A private message has been sent to you.

@QCI and I spoke today. The internal FF4 internal halyard broke on the raising and lowering side but can be reached where it broke. Suggested taping off broken end and insert a 1/8 inch messenger line above the taped end tying a Boleyn on the aft end pulling messenger line up and thruvtop cap and down. Remove the messenger line and attach to new internal halyard and pull through extrusion.

I learned that the marina manager where he keeps his boat at was a former customer of mine back in the 1990’s.
