Dirty Bottom Blues

This past winter I decided to leave the boat in the water, in our marina in the middle Chesapeake Bay. All went well until I recently took the boat out -then, disaster! This once speedy vessel (1990 H35.5) is no longer able to take on any boats (even got passed yesterday by a Catalina 27 - ye gods!) This new-found frozen molasses syndrome also is evident when under power - top speed of 5.4 knots with the Yanmar 27 at 2800 RPM. My only thought is that my hull has picked up enough crud over the winter to drop us down by almost 2 knots. I am curious if anyone else has seen this significant a loss of speed due to dirty bottom illness?

Dirty props are worse

You think your dirty bottom causes you to slow down, wait till the bannacles on your prop let you motor at about 2 knots max, then you'll know it's been way to long between cleanings :)))) Bob Knott H380

You're lucky with 5.4 knots.....

I've had to throttle back making 4 due to vibration when the bottom & prop/shaft have really accumulated stuff. This usually happens at the end of the season after not having used the boat for an extensive period. A quick diver clean-up clears this up quickly.
