JOHN EDWARDS

Well I came back from a three week trip to ireland and found that the birds used our spreaders to drop bombs on our doger and hull. it has taken me a complete day to scrub off the shite. My question is has anyone found a way to get off the residue of white from canvas. my blue dodger looks like a weird dalmation. thanks capt john

The Shite Hunter !

Hello again John, Well West Marine sells a cleaner that will take care of just that sort of thing, in your case since you are on the East Coast you might try Coastal Marine, they are on the net as well and have a distribution center out of Maine. One other thing , If you would like to keep the Sea Gulls away you can buy one of two stuffed annimals to either hang in the rigging or place on the deck. The first one is an Owl and the bigger the better, scares the snot right out of them and they won't even think of landing. The second one is a snake artifical of course either stuffed or inflated with air , again the bigger the better. The snake has a more positive reaction if layed on the deck or cabin top. Again Happy Sailing Dave LaPere

Keep the birds away for less then 5 dollars

I can't help you with the cleanup. But, I can tell you my trick for keeping the birds away. I use mylar ribbon; I was able to find it Home Depot in the Garden area. (it is sold for the purpose of keeping the birds away)I cut the ribbon in 2ft lengths then secure them on a line about 3-4 feet apart and then run the line up the mass.I never have problems with birds. I have yet to fine anything that works better! It is cost less then anything out there that I have seen and it really works and they are not unsightly (unless of course you are a bird!)
