Any Ideas? Terns or Sea Gulls have soiled my boat with a staggering ammount of guano. I took the boat off its mooring to the local marina and water blasted the deck. This removed the large deposits. I am left with brownish stains on the non Skid in the Gell coat. These stains are like the Cat in the Hat stain. They are impervious to Bleach, soft scrub, 409, Lime and Rust Remover and Even the nuclear bomb of cleaners, On and Off. My next effort is Dishwasher caustic and then Acetone. Does anyone have a good Idea of how to remove poop stains from the deck?

I use...
Full strength vinegar. In a spray bottle, spritz the area, let it set, scrub, then wash down with lots of water. Repeat or leave on longer for more affect. I didn't have the colored stains you are talking about, but I did have stains that nothing would touch, including all the cleaners you mentioned. After I applied the vinegar, the stains went away (with some work of course). Good luck

Removing Poop
Ok here a couple of Ideas. First: Try lacquer thinner on the stains let it sit a couple of minutes than hit it with a scrub brush. Than rinse it off. Heres another Idea: get some of that plastic webbing that they use to fence off construction sites. cut it up in a couple of sections. Tie a section to the head stay or use a jib halyard to hold it up about waste high than tie it off at the rail fore and aft port and starboard. so it covers most of the fore deck. Take another section put it over the boom tie it off at the mast than at the rails port and starboard so it covers most of the cabin roof. The gulls wont land on it. takes less than 5 min to put it up. Dosent look to pretty but it works guaranteed Bob

Bird Scare Predator Eye
Google "bird scare predator eye" and you'll find these inflateable balls that look like weird bird eyes. Easy to take down and stow when it's time to go. I hang one from a line run from the bow rail to the mast and the other from the mast to the back stay. Haven't had any issues. Good luck getting the stains out but vinegar solves most problems.

Try collinite wax cleaner, available at most marine stores. It works well on seagull poop.

Whirl-a-bird
Gel dishwasher detergent is the goo of choice for swallow guano at our marina. Some use the bobble head owls to scare off birds. The PO of my boat tied rubber snakes to the lifelines. I've seen those goggle eyed beach balls in farm fields. That's my plan for next season. Friends of friends related their backyard squirrel defense system. Maybe it could be converted for bird use. It consisted of a feeder with a weight sensitive trigger mechanism. If a squirrel climbed on it, it would be violently flung off for some distance. They called it the squirrel-a-whirl.

I have used acetone on the outboard and found that coupled with elbow grease works well.After which I would invest in some flags, easy up and easy take down.

Diluted muriatic (sp) acid works great. You can get it at most home improvement stores in the pool maintenance area. I mix it about 1 part acid to three parts water. Best applied when there is a little wind to avoid breathing the fumes. The stuff bubbles and removes the stains in seconds. Have a hose ready to rinse off. One thing......DO NOT get on aluminum or it will stain it. As for keeping the birds off, I found that a few of those kids whirly wind things on a stick works very well as do old CD's hung in various locations. They don't like the reflections.

Collinite! the preventitive to bird poop. I am also in hope that the Chandlery here will soon be a provider of this product. I would recommend using the collinite Saffire to prep for the collinite insulator wax. This is good stuff!
