Manslaughter Charge Dismissed in Boat Crash
Lake County District Attorney Jon Hopkins has formally dismissed the manslaughter charge against Bismarck Dinius. He still faces a felony boating under the influence and two misdemeanor BUI charges, associated with the crash that killed Lynn Thornton of Willows.

Just to help others out. I couldn't open the link from work. So manslaughter is gone, but I am not sure about BUI yet. Seems like that hasn't been settled.

Responsibility
As a former resident of Lake County let say that the folks there are just like everywhere else, some good , some bad, and some professional and some not. Was man-slaughter the right charge? Maybe not, but the fact is that the capt of the sailboat was over the legal limit, the person at the helm was over the legal limit and an accident occur on their watch. Should the sheriff who was driving a speedboat to fast at night also be charged? Sure. But let's not forget everybody who was on either boat that night has some responsibility for what happened. If you are impaired you shouldn't be out on the water, in a powerboat, sailboat or a row boat.

The local prosecuting attorney, judge and law enforcement have all clearly conspired to scapegoat Dinius while ignoring the clear fact that no one would have died if the Deputy had been going a safe and reasonable speed at night in his powerboat.
