The dining table support post on my recently acquired '88 C36 will not telescope down once the black knob is loosened -- it simply stays locked in place. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or do I need to replace it? If a replacement is necessary, can Catalina accommodate it or do I need to go to the manufacturer? Any idea on cost?

Dinning Table Stuck!

Call Catalina....They have a great parts department. Just tell them your year and they'll supply everything you need.

corrosion?

Could the parts be stuck together because the salty air could have caused some corrosion?? Maybe a little wiggling can loosen it up. Just a thought. Roc

Matt, I had a similar issue with my '96 C320, which we purchased last fall. Although the boat was in immaculate condition, I just couldn't lower the table. After much head-scratching and attempts to solve the problem with various tools, etc, an acquaintance mentioned that he had experienced a similar problem. Seems the "solution" was to take extra care to press down exactly vertically on the table above the post. Evidently, the slide can be quite sensitive to angle of downward force. It took a while (and risked a back strain), but it worked. Although I felt rather incompetent, operator error was much less expensive than a new table suppport mechanism. Worth a try. Good luck!

Oil it!

I had a great deal of difficulty lowering the table on my new '98 Cat 36 until I oiled the tube w/ WD40. Probably not the best lubricant for the job, but it made a noticable difference.
