Wellllllll
Scott:Well what you do is lift the table slightly to get it off of the post. Now if yours has not been moved for some time, you may want to spray the area around the post (both top and bottom) with WD40 or some such cleaner/lubricant. The post is steel with a chrome finish and I think that the receptors are pot metal. They will get a little corroded. Once you lift the table top about 2-3" you should be able to wiggle the post out. Then you just drop the table down about 2-3" and the brackets should allow you to release the table. This is actually a two person job. Be careful not to raise the table too high because you may chip the formica (I know about that). There are a couple of cleats on the underside of the table that hold the table in place when it is sitting on the benches. If you are planning on sleeping in this area, you need to move the cushions around a little. This is probably NOT the best bunk in the house but you really don't want them to stay too long anyway.
