I want to get a dingy. I am considering different options. I will not be using dingy davits and I will be towing the dingy behind. I am wondering how an inflateable dingy will do if it is being towed. I am thinking of a dingy without the wood or fiberglass floor. Anyone know how that will go?

clark craft

If you're handy and thrifty try the 6 or 8 foot pram dingy from Clark Craft. The plans are pretty easy and the thing looks super classic. I just built the 6 footer for my h25 and I love it,I'd reccoment glassing the bottom though. I used 6oz woven cloth.

More info needed

Hi Matt - It would help to know what type of boat you have that you'll be towing your dinghy from. Size will be a consideration. Also, you should be able to haul the dinghy onto the foredeck if you plan to be in any kind of big water for extended periods. Probably not necessary for just inland stuff. There are two divergent paths to start: rigid or inflatable. In any case, lighter is better; there are several materials and bottom configurations to consider. What is the primary purpose of the dinghy? Rowing or motoring ashore (close distances) or longer trips to shore, possibly with provisions? Big family? Pets? There's a wealth of info already written in this subject; try an archive search. All the best, Trevor

Hard Dinghies

The January 2004 issue of Crusing World Magazine has a complete article all about hard dinghies. Photos and prices. You may want to at least look at them. David
