Thank you for all your answers to the Dingy drag article. Since it looks like the least towing drag would be without the motor on, I would like to ask if anybody has any ideas on how to rig a pulley system or an inexpensive davit to bring the engine (73 lbs) up/down to the rail mount (I want to save my back). Thank you

I thought I would make my own......

....and I did. Quite simple, really, but by the time I had bought the tubing, found I had to run a gusset up the interior, had the welding done, and bought the fittings, I think I could have bought the Garhauer for less. On the other hand, it was an interesting project, and I have a "custom" fit.

Outboard motor lift

I just bought a Honda 8HP motor that weighs 110lbs. I also bought a Garhauer davit that is great. I can remove my motor with the help of one other person just for help in an emergency. It cost $199 and is extremly well made. You do have to have a stern rail though to attach it to. It is easily removed to store when not in use.

Dinghy Outboard Davit

Check out the Forespar Nova Lift I and II. Been using one for two years. Makes lifting and lowering the outboard much easier on the crew.

110 lbs? Is it the new rounded style

My 1994 Honda 8HP with a 20 inch shaft only weighs 85 lbs. I routinely lift it on and off the boat by myself with no lift. I was thinking of getting one of the newer models but not if they've gained that much weight. Paul 1974 C27

Engine lifter

Ozana; Forespar makes a nice lifter that can be quickly set up and taken down, once the lower ball and the middle ring is in place. Defender Ind. carries them for about $175, (that was the price six years ago, anyway)

Neil, what size bolts did you use?

I just bought the Garhauer lift over the winter and will be installing it in the next few weeks. What size bolts did you use for the thru-deck fitting? I read that it uses #10 bolts, but how long? I would think no more than 1 1/2 inches. Thanks for the help, Les Murray s/v Ceilidh '86 C-36 #560
