I am considering mounting one of those plastic hydrofoil fins (ie, Stingray Jr.) to my inflatable dingy 8 hp outboard to improve performance. Any experience with them? Thanks.

Try the trim tabs instead....

I put a set of Doelphins(?) on my 6 Hp Johnson, Which is mounted to an achilles air floor 9 foot inflatable. I am a big guy(i.e.,250lbs) and it still takes a considerable amount of time to get up on plane. I might suggest trying the stern mounted trim tabs with spring loaded actuators.

I like mine

18 HP Tohatsu with a 310 Avon RIB. The Doel-Fin hydrofoil works great. I haven't tried any other so I have no basis for comparison. Without the foil, the boat would pitch up for a long time when accelerating and would make a lot of wake. With the foil, it straightens out immediately and starts planing right away.

Thanks. Works great.

I bought the Doel-Fin hydrofoil and tried it out this weekend. Performance was significantly improved, especially with one person aboard. It now pops up onto a plane with without crawling forward to distribute the weight, and keeps on plane at lower speed. Top speed seemed reduced a bit (more drag?), but not enough to worry about.
