I just moved my h37c to a mooring ball. What is the best way to tie off a dinghy to the mooring ball when you go sailing to avoid tangled lines and fouled props when you return? I usually sail solo so need to keep it simple. I have a 15' mooring line attached to a chain under the mooring ball and a pickup buoy attached to the end of the mooring line via a 10' line. Seems like I should attach the dinghy painter to the end of the mooring line, same place the pickup buoy is attached that way when I grab the pickup buoy I get the dingy painter at the same time. Thanks for any tips.

It's easy

Val, I have a C27 on a mooring,a 9' caribe inflatable with a 9.9. What I do is I'll motor along side kill engine, let every body off ,coolers....then just pull myself along the boat to the bow and tie the inflatable to the loop over the cleat{ the end of the pennat} after I get the engine warmed up a bit I just release the mooring line, with the infl. attached back up a bit then drive away. Approching the mooring you should face the wind come up very slowly almost stopped put It in neutral run up and try to grab the pick up. When you do just cleat it off, then untie inflatable and walk It back to the stern and cleat it off.

...but if I am to leave the boat unattended or stay overnight, I just take about 3-4' of line and wrap/tie it over the pennant over the cleat. This "locks" it in place and it won't slip off at a slack tide or no wind situation. Plus it helps me sleep beter. :)

brass clip

Hello, I asked the same question a few years ago. The answer I got was to tie a big brass snap hook to the end of the dingy painter. Clip the ring to one of the mooring pendants and off you go. I also use a mooring pick up stick. I drop the mooring pendants on the pick up stick. When I get to the mooring I pull up bow first, walk forward and grab the pick up stick. I do it myself all the time. The only time it's not easy is when it's real windy. Barry
