Dinghy Storage

I just got my dinghy that I got on ebay. Filled it up and seems to hold air...yahoooo. Will be taking it out to the boat tonight to put it in the water and give it a better test. The dinghy is 11' by 5' and seems to weight about 80-100 lbs without the outboard. I was thinking I could keep it deflatted in the v-berth and move it around when needed, but now that I think of it, it's kind of bulky and heavy to be moving around. I will not be using it much now, I got it more for long weekend trips and emergencies, but also for when I cruise in the future (hopefully not too far away). Questions: 1) where do you store your dinghy when not in use? 2) Does UV really hurt these? I've been told putting them on the dinghy rack wasn't a good idea because they don't have any protection there from UV. Thoughts? 3) What do you use to blow yours up if you keep it deflatted on the boat? 4) If I bolt it down (chain and lock) on the bow and cover it with some kind of canvis, issues with that? Thanks in advance...

Dinghy

When I am traveling any distance I put mine on the foredeck, leaving it blown up. I have seen them also carried deflated and in the bag in front of the mast. But with the hand pump I have, usually leave mine inflated, as it is a pain in the but to blow it up on the boat. Short distances I just let it tag along behind the boat. Not sure about UV damage, but it could be a problem with time. Has anyone tried any of the bottom paints made for inflatables.

Storage?

How do you store it when you are at the slip? AKA...when (if) you go home on Sunday and don't come back until next weekend.

Sure, we can race dinghys....the old fashion way :) I haven't gotten my outboard yet. Been debating on whether to go with used or new and what size. Figured I would see if this thing floats first and go from there. I've looked at ebay on motors and all the ones that seem a good deal are old. I don't want to find myself in a 3rd world country trying to find a part for a 30-40 year old motor.

Depends on the size of your boat

We just added Weaver Snap Davits to the stern of our 36 foot sailboat. The system allows you to set the Dinghy at the stern perpendicular to your vessel. snap it in and then hoist the far side up. Love it for our 10 ft. tender but it may not be good for you depends on transom width an config. Check them out on the web they have a variety of installation types.
