Dinghy "skin" covers.

I have seen fabric "skin" type covers on inflatables before, but my Google search comes up empty on suppliers. I assume they are pricey, but a great alternative to the traditional cover, and its on all the time.

Does anybody have a clue where to start? Or are they custom made (gulp!)

Most are custom made by a canvas shop and we know people who have their own sewning machine who make all their own canvas for all the boat and dinghy covers which saves a lot of money,canvas shops due charge big $$$$ for nice custom work,I have a full cover that I use while the dinghy sites at the dock here in Florida.

Just curious, but by "skin" type dingy cover, do you simply mean a very tightly fitting cover???
Why would you, necessarily, want the cover to fit so tightly??
"Regular" dingy covers fit rather tightly, anyway.
You didn't say what type of dingy you have; but, have you checked w/ the dingy manufacturer to see if they sell a dingy cover as an accessory?... many do, usually for much less $ than a custom made cover from a canvas shop.

We made our own. We carry a Sailrite machine and make all of our covers. We made the template from sheets of clear plastic.

I have to laugh at myself, cause I'm always thinking how stupid people are when they don't take the time to look at what's presented ... I just joined to crowd :redface:

Great info. Thanks. Not sure if Im equipped to handle that DIY project. Menestheus says $800-1000. Guess I'll stick with the old stand-by cover for now and just take it on & off as needed.
