Any one care to share dinghy registration info? Dinghy came with the boat, no numbers or registration. Do I need to register with Florida? Or will putting the old fashioned "T/T" still work? Thanks for the info?

Check State

JD: Best check with your State, propably Fish and Game Dept. Registration/licensing requirement varies from state to state and probably whether or not you ever use a motor on the dinghy. RK

A general rule

A general rule for each state is no motor, no registration needed. But even a little electric troll motor qualifies as a motor. Check with the state to find out for sure.

After years of having T/T on my dinks, I got stopped by Harbor Patrol who advised me that despite the boat being documented, if the dink was used in the harbor with a motor, inland rules applied and it had to be registered. I had no ID for it or another, but went to the DMV advising that neither had an ID but I was now going to motor and needed to register them (no registration was needed if oars were the sole propulsion). Anyhow, they just registered them as home-built and assigned me numbers. RD

Check with...

the town you live in... and tell them where the dink will be used. Generally if it has a motor... it needs to be registered. They should know... each state is different.

In Florida, If it has a Motor or is over 16' it must be Registered

It may be 14' I am not certain now that I think about it. In Mississippi it is okay on a documented boat only if used to go from the boat to the dock any sort of harbor sightseeing can get you a ticket. You must also have the red/green all around white lights if it is capable of more than six knots. There are a few FWC Officers around here who have started going after folks on that issue. Another requiirement that comes to play is the white light must be at least one meter above the red/green one have not heard of anyon getting zapped on that one but if you are buying lights anyway get theone with the taller pole.
