I have a 23.5 hunter and I would like to build a dinghy for it this winter and am looking for some plans. If there is anyone out there that has any I would appreciate hearing from them. I have fairly advanced woodworking skills and lots of equipment, but am looking for that "right" plan. Thanks for any help!!!!

D4 dinghy great!

Several years ago I built the D4 dinghy from free plans. The D4 uses the stitch and glue method. Even the free plans has the requisite offsets but I believe full size plans are available too. When I first built it I left out the skeg, bad decision, it has to have a skeg to keep is on track rowing. I use it with a H33 and it stores fine on the foredeck, still leaving room on both side decks to the bow. I can hoist it aboard by myself using halyard and winch. Just as important, it rows great and will hold 3 adults or lots of gear. It tows like a dream, stable enough for the wary and has very little drag when riding the first stern wave. After marking up my topsides with a painted rail, I let in a rope as bumper, a lot kinder to the boat . The plan also includes a sail option. The D4 site is a lot slicker than when I downloaded the plans in .pcx format but the free plans are still there.

Just finished building a D4, built the sailing version from the free plans. Rows like a champ, very light, strong and CHEAP!
