All their models when I was looking a couple of yeas ago were hypalon. They don't have any PVC products as far as I know so I'd say it was a very good chance that its a hypalon boat.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure because of the color and Achillies did make pvc products, maybe not boats but... I don't know the year, I'm buying it tonight. I but that color gets hot in the sun though

Marc:

Gray ones get very hot in the sun. Sat on ours more than once and burnt the legs. Usually a little water cools them right off.

An old hypalon is better than any PVC dink that I know of.

Well, its mine now. The pictures must have been old because it isn't as shiny. Dingy dinghy. But I only paid $325 for it. Some of the seams around the oar lock are lifted maybe 1/8" . Every thing else seems to be tight especially for a 1989. One rope eye in the middle needs replace.(maybe never). Now to find the hypalon cleaning thread.

Hi Marc, definitely Hypalon (circa 1987-ish). Great boat.

Any chance this old Achillies dinghy is Hypalon? I'm trying to get a hold of the owner.
Appears to be an '87-ish Achilles LS-4 or LS4GX.

1987 Achilles catalog link [see pages 22 & 23: http://www.achillesinflatables.com/pdf/files/1987achilles_catalog.pdf

There were a few years when Achilles dabbled in Urethane coatd fabric, but only under the Conquest name brand. If a boat says "Achilles" on it, it is Hypalon (or now CSM - Chlorosulfonated Material [which is generic Hypalon]).

Enjoy your boat and your season.

I bought an inflatable on faith after being told to look at the edge of the seams, you should be able to see the bottom lining of the material. If black it is hypalon. Also, if the seam is an overlap it is likely hypalon. So if the seam has a 3/4" strip of the same material on top of the two that budded together, it is likely that the seam is welded instead of glued and is PVC. Hypalon is glued with overlap, no strip.

I used that as a way to buy a Zepplin Kodiak 8 ' and later found the serial number on the web and it is hypalon according to the information found on inflatables. After clean up, I got a deal.
