You will need a red and green light for the bow and a white light for the stern. You can buy these items from a good boating accessory store that are powered with D cell batteries. The stern light is on a pole and if you have a fiberglass or wooden transom, you can screw the bracket to hold the stern light right into the transom. Easy installation. The bow (red/green) light can be attached several ways depending on the light you purchase. Some lights have suction cups on them, but they can fall off in the drink. The Light I use on my dinghy has a bracket on it with a pin running at right angles. It is designed to fit into the other half of the bracket which you glue to the tube at the bow of your boat. But, what I do is have a galvanized chain coming from the bow eye of my dinghy and the other end is brought back over the tube at the bow to another eye inside the boat. The link of the chain is large enough to accept the light's bracket pin. No, glueing, etc. and it won't fall off. I also use the chain to secure the dinghy to a dock or my sailboat so no one will steal my dinghy when I am away, sleeping or at a dinghy dock somewhere.
