Dinghy Dogs

I have a hard dinghy which my wife hates. It tends to be tippy when getting in and out. I would like an inflateable, but hate to spend that much. So I heard about dinghy dogs. Inflatable tubes you attach to the sides of a hard dinghy. Has anybody used them? Are they worth the $400 - $500? Thanks

Sell your current dinghy and buy a Watertender 9.4 from West Marine for $600. There is no shipping charge if you pick it up at the store. The cathedral hull design is very stable.

How are you going to use your dinghy? Do you use it to row out to your mooring, do you want to transport it for cruises? One thing about inflatables is that they don't row real well especially in a wind. I suppose the ribs are OK, but flat bottomed inflatables are susceptible in a wind.

I would use a small outboard, and tow the dinghy when cruising. I will check out West Marine. The boat I'm buying comes with a hard, so I thought I would try to use it.

Use Craigslist to find a dinghy. You can get a really good price. It's much greener too!

Just a few months or so ago there was an article in one of the sailing Mags were a fellow adapted some tubes to his hard dinging for the same reason. Think it worked out well for him. Search their sites and you should find it.

Yup seen that. It was in Practical Sailor. He was using the tubes from Walker boats. They cost between $800-$900. Not a bad idea to save the cost a $2000 RIB.
