As my wife and I are getting older and have more time to sail, our backs are also getting older and we're looking for easier ways to sail. Our 30' sailboat has pulled a airfloor dinghy in the past which definitely slows us down. Last few years, we've put the dinghy on the foredeck or deflated it to get around. Davits seem the next logical expense, but I can't recall ever seeing one on a 30' boat. I have a Hunter 290, with a swim platform that should handle the load. The Forespar and Garhauer have davits that bolt to my seat rails. The motor will be removed when transporting. So I'm almost there...but wanted to test the advice and comments (besides get a bigger boat...two kids in college). And I'm interested in both Hunter and non-Hunter experience. Thanks in advance. Paul

Many 30 footers have them

for your very same reasons. There are lots of davit manufacturers out there. Many advertise in the Catalina Mainsheet magazine, but with your Hunter that won't work for you. The picture Ken posted looks like ocean marine (www.oceanmarine.com) Also try www.katomarine.com also try www.garhauer.com a google search on dinghy davits would pop some more up, no doubt

I see you have a solar panel attached to your davits,I want to do the same set up and I'm wondering do you find the panel gets in tne way of getting on and off the boat via the swim ladder. Another reason for davits is having a place for mounting the solar panel.

I like the Kato Davits

That I have on our Catalina. Don't know how they work on the Hunter, but I really like them a lot. Like RAD, I use mine for the outboard also. They were cheap, if $2600 is cheap. Also, they have a weight rating that allows me to pick up the dink and leave the outboard on it if I desire. I don't, but I can if I want or need to. Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses

Made contact with Ocean Marine; they have a version that is distinctly taller and fits my boat well. In fact, they knew exactly how it would fit, including the right fitting to accommodate the curvature of the railing. Pretty impressive and extremely responsive. Thanks to all for the help. Paul
