Folks, I am about to purchase a 1985 Huntter 31. Both the current owner and the broker stated that the dinette converts to a bunk, but neither had actually tried it. I did. I found that when the leg is removed and the table board lowered, it is larger than the space between the seat boards. Is there a trick to this or is it in reality not designed to be anything but a dinette? The broker called the Hinter factory with the question twice, but they have notg reponded. Any insight into this mystery would be appreciated. Greig

Sounds about right

We have the 34 and it is the same setup. The table is a little bit bigger and should have a couple of blocks of wood that keeps it from sliding fore and aft when in the down position. Take your seat cusions and bring them to center over the table you just put down and then put your seatback cushions to the position you just moved your seat cushions from. It will cover the space with cushion just fully. It may look a little funny with those four cushion, but put a full size fitted sheet on it, and it is the best berth in the house. This is the berth we sleep in all the time. Big enough for me, my wife, and my Siberian Husky to all sleep. If you post a photo of what the table looks like, I can tell you if it is right.

That is how it works

Grieg: That is how it works. The cushions do not fit really well, but it makes an OKAY bunk for a smaller person (or two if they are children). I think that there are some battens on the bottom of the table top to keep it from sliding fore/aft.

Table to Bed

When we had our 335 we lowered the table and laid out the cushions. On top of the cushions we put an Aero Bed. Ours fit a Full size perfectly. It uses 110 to inflate and a small invertor was all that was needed. It goes flat and rolls up just like on TV. Is was way more comfortable than sleeping on the cushions alone.

Here is a Picture

Here is a photo of the dinette. Great to hear that the husky fits. I'm wondering how our husky might react to being aboard. Apparently yours is an accomplished sailor?

Looks like ours...

That is the same setup that we have, so you should be good to go with it. Our Husky has taken to sailing really well. She was a little hesitant at first, but loves it now. Below is a link to some pictures of her earlier this year on our old Catalina 25 out for the first sail of the year. Strap a life jacket on her and she is good to go... We started her on a Hobie Cat when she was a puppy.

king size bunk

that is how it works for a small bunk , the previous owner of my 31 , had cut out some plywood to fit over the seat bottoms to make the bunk level , and then fit some plywood to completely cover over to the port side sette and had a huge mattress made to fit , WOW a king size bunk!!!
