I know there are major differences between your '79 an my '89 but I have the same setup. There are cushions in the aft quarterberth (along the starboard side hull)that fit perfectly on top of the table for use as a bed.
I have the same boat and problem, If you find out something I would like to know too. Short of a coustom coushion I do not know what to do. Isn't that a heavy table though?
I have a new 83' C30. There were two cushions that were "extra" that are used to make the bed along with the quarterberth side cushion. If you need the exact demsions let me know. And yes the table is heavy.
