I'm looking at a solid 1985 Hunter 31, but the current owner doesn't know how to convert the dinette table, which sits on a solid post amid ship, to a double berth. Can this be done, and if so how?

yes! The table needs to be lifted off the post (sometimes difficult). Remove the post and then lift the table off the clips on the bulkhead.

You may want to get a mallet to coerce the table off the post.

Supplemental Info: The top edge of the vertical post is VERY sharp.. watch fingers.. Don't lift any higher than is necessary to disengage bottom of post. Wiggle top of post and pull it up a little to free it from the floor socket once you've freed it from the under table socket. Once post is out, drop table past horizontal a little to disengage the brackets on the outboard end. Lift the end vertically and it should disengage. pull the settee cushions up and lay the table top between the seats. the two bottom cushions go in the middle and the backrests go on the head and foot.. Makes a nice bunk .

Many thanks, I think you've convinced me to buy the boat, lack of that berth might have been a deal breaker.

Wow.. Well, Good Luck with it, Percy.. That berth is cooler in the summer .. pull straws to see who sleeps next to the wall..
