Give it a try!
Dennis, before you make a change and a commitment to a loose footed main, you should try your rope bolt footed main as a loose footed main, and see if you like the performance. If you have a slug at the clew outhaul, simply feed your outhaul back without feeding in the rope bolt, and haul back with the slug only. Give it a try. If you like the performance, you can have the bolt rope cut out by a few inches and hemmed, and you'll be set to go with your own mainsail. Even if you don't have a slug, you can try it, but a slug is safer. Loose footed mains are a personal decision, most sailmakers do it that way now. Both of my boats are loosefooted mains. Give it a try when you have a chance.....Jim
