Has anyone had any experience with this type of anchor? They had a demo at the boat show, which, on the surface, sounds impressive. Price, wise, they aren't bad and they are relatively light for the holding power that they are supposed to have (#15 for a boat up to 40 feet). Probably might make a good second anchor, but I was curious about using one as primary. Steve "Sailing Lady" Everett, WA

Looks good, but

I checked out the digger anchor at the Seattle boat show, they make it sound good, "just motor above the anchor, and give it a jerk." but what happens when the tide shifts. It seems like you would be putting alot of trust in an anchor that is designed to let go.

Doug... what do you mean?

I am trying to get ideas on the pros and cons on this anchor. I don't mean to argue with you, but what you mean, "if the tide shifts". If you can figure out the flaws in this design, it would influence me on whether to buy this. The anchor drops straight when you pick it up off the bottom and give it a tug. Only in a straight up, 90 degree position. By the way, I also saw it at the Seattle boat show... nice lots of boats and "goodies", eh? Steve "Sailing Lady" Everett, WA

Digger Anchor Reviews

I haven't used one, but two independent tests done on the "Digger Anchor" gave the anchor a poor review. It might be fine for inland waters during the day when the crew is up, but I would be fearful about using one for my primary anchor at night when the crew is asleep. I haven't used one or heard of anyone using one, but based on the two bad reviews I wouldn't get one. I just my opinion, it may work just fine as your primary anchor. Sorry for the confusing response

Sorry, I guess the tide doesn't really "shift." I just envision my boat swinging into a position where it could place enough stress on the anchor to cause it to release. It sound like a great idea, but I'm too nervious to give it a chance. As for the boat show, it was great. Too many toys though, and not enough money in my wallet.

Digger

I cannot understand why anyone would want an ANCHOR whose primary (prommotional) advantage seems to be it's easy retrieval. I prefer that my anchors actually anchor the boat. :) OMO
