I am installing a new spinnaker halyard but I have not been able to feed the line under the cabin top to the stopper. I am using a thin messenger line that is taped and knotted but the halyard won't go through because the openings, which I can't see, must be very small. Does anyone have any secrets for tieing the messenger line to the halyard or for getting the haryard through? Will I need to take the sealed cover off to feed the halyard through? Thanks.

Feeding New Halyard

Steve are you refering to the spray hood? If so, shouldn't be a big problem to remove the hood to gain access to the halyards. We had to remove the hood on our 340 to locate & seal a small leak. Not a major problem & might ease your frustration.

Spoke to the experts

My dealer just advised me that it's easy to take off the spray cover on my '98 376 and insert the lines manually. I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks for the help.

Spray Hood

Go ahead and take off the spray hood. It really doesn't need to be sealed! You can re-seal it again if you think it is necessary. There are two sets of turning blocks under the hood on each side. You should be able to run the line with a messenger as long as the messenger is properly routed. I did it this weekend with the jib halyard. Tie the messnger line to the halyard and then use a piece of tape to force the messenger line to come off the center of the halyard. Doug Merrill s/v Dream Catcher
