I would like to know if anyone has the history of the 44DS from its inception to the current 2009 Model. I am asking this since I noticed a few changes over time.

1. The salon layout as far as the portholes over the galley went from two opening windows to one opening window.
2. The fixed porthole in the salon near the salon table and behind the couch is not there on the new version but is on the older versions.

Why would Hunter delete these two great features (more air near the galley so when your cooking the smoke has more places to go out - and also having a window to look out while your sitting so that you can see out your boat from either the salon table or the couch)?

If anyone else know of any other mods done from the 2003 model thru the 2009 model 44DS please let me know.

Thanks,

Ray

I looked on the Hunter website and couldn't tell by the pictures the changes you were writing about though I agree it seems strange.

We have a 2005 44AC with the two opening ports above the galley and fixed ports on both sides of the salon.

I have a 426DS (same hull as 44DS) - and the biggest change is in the aft cabin. The bed in mine lies athwartship. I'd prefer it to lie along the center line as in all the 44s.

Have a 2007 h44ds, with the original ports you describe. I think what you are referring to is the change made when Hunter went to the wraparound plexiglas look. I personally do not like it; this is one of the reasons we bought the 44ds instead of the 45cc which has the wraparound. Actually, the biggest difference I think is the deletion of an opening hatch dead center forward in the salon which lets in a breeze whenever the boat is pointed into the wind (like at our mooring). The restyle is not an improvement, IMHO.

Hi Steve:

Thanks for the info. I think you are exactly right concerning the new wraparound and how if affected the center opening window, the elimination of the two fixed port windows on starboard and port sides, and the two opening ports over the galley. I would much prefer the old style to the new wraparound.

Kind Regards,

Ray
