In looking at the varius Catalinas, I see Catalinas and then Capris. Is there some basic difference between the two?

Smaller boats

Hi Dave - My understanding is that the smaller day sailors are designated as Capris, whereas the larger boats with cabins are designated Catalinas. The MkII and III designations are for design revisions of the same boat in subsequent years. Best, Trevor

I wondered the same thing

A friend of mine's parents have a Capri 29 & I have a Catalina 30 (actual hull length 29'11"). The Capri seems to be narrower & built more for performance whereas the Catalina is all about comfort & accomodations. Anyone else know for sure? All I'm going on are pictures. I've never seen a Capri in person. Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632

Race vs Cruise

My understanding is the Capri models are for racing while the Catalina models are for cruising. At least that's the way it is with the 22' models. The capri has the racing package while the cataina is the cruiser. Barry

Capri vs Catalina

The Capri's are generally the designation for performance oriented models in Catalina's lineup. There are exceptions, like the Capri 26. Capri's tend to be lighter, lower cabin height, more sail area, etc... There is no one definitive factor though.
