I have started looking into Cal 25's and have noticed that there seems to be at least 3 different versions. Best I can tell, the flush decked Cal 25's came first and the Cal 25 Mark II's and 2-25's came later. But what I haven't figured out is the history behind the changes and the differences, especially between the Mark II's and 2-25's. Any enlightenment that someone can provide would be much appreciated. Any feedback about how Cal 25's compare to Catalina 25's or other comparibly sized sailboats would be of interest as well. Thanks!

cal 25's

There were only two versions of the 25's the flat top and the 25 MK 2. They are completely different boats by different designers. the flat top was by Lapworth and the mk2 by Hunt. Both are good boats the newer mk2 has better creature comforts the older one sails better downwind. In my opinion they are both better than the Catalina in overall construction.

Cal 2-25 (MK II)

John, the Cal 2-25 that you call the Mark II is a Lampworth Designed Boat (I have the brochure that shows Bill Lampworth as the designer) the Cal Meter boats are the ones design by Hunt (Like the Cal 9.2) Visit my web site at http://kgezella.tripod.com/ for more information there also a link to the Cal 25 owners association (Mainly for the older "Flat top" version) But I agree the Cal 2-25 carries more sail area than a Catalina 25, has more head room and a better PHRF
