One thing to consider and do a little research on is the construction of your fuel tank. The new fuel formulations are raising hell with many older fuel tanks, because ethanol is both cleaning out all the old contaminants (and running them into the engine) and in some cases simply eating through the fuel tanks. I believe this is not a problem with diesel fuel, only gasoline, but I could be wrong. In any case, research this issue, it may help you to decide. I would also be reluctant to assume that a tank designed for diesel is safe for gasoline from a fire and ventilation point of view.

And engines. Excellent point and reason enough in itself to go with diesel. The new fuels are eating hoses and seals in older engines. The formulations were developed with no thought given to marine usage and that the they would stay in an auto tank no more than the typical two weeks.
