My new boat, a Cheoy Lee Offshore 27, has a Volvo MD1 diesel engine in it. Soon after I bought the boat I replaced the thermostat cover gasket since it was leaking bad. I couldn't find a replacement thermostat so had to clean up the original one and re-used it. I did test it and saw that it actuated at close to the boiling point of fresh water. After running the engine for 20-30 minutes I don't get any warm water coming out and wonder if the thermostat ever opens. Does anyone know where I can get the correct replacement thermostat? What temp. should it actuate at?

Bill; Try the local Volvo dealer or distributor for the thermostat. If you're lucky it won't have to come from Sweden. Use a manila folder to make a new gasket, traced from the old one. Grease it and install. If the engine is FWC, it should run about 180-190 degrees. If it's raw-water cooled, more like 130-140 degrees. Good luck.
