Diesel replacement for Atomic 4?

Hello.I have a toasted Atomic 4 in my Catalina 27. Does anyone know if one of the new Westerbeke models is a direct replacement for the Atomic 4?Also, anyone have any ideas as to how much a repower and a rebuild should cost me? I've gotten a couple of prices, but would like to verify those.ThanksBob

I have heard that...

some Universal Diesel models will fit the engine mounts perfectly since the A-4 is also a Universal. It is not cheap though.

A lot of money!

Have seen costs of replacing A4 w/ Diesel at about $8K - $9K This includes the engine, labor and all accessories.Check with Moyer Marine. You can get a rebuilt A4 for much less.If you are mechanically inclined, you could rebuild the motor yourself for approximatly $1,500. Check the Archives/Convert to Outboard?

Check out the archives, there should be several items on this subject. One option you have is to rip out the inboard and convert to an outboard. It will be much cheaper and you'll have a much faster sailing boat and loads of new storage space.
