I am considering buying a 1985 27 that has 465 hours on its 14hp diesel engine. How many hours should you be able to get before you look at doing some major repairs? Is 465 hours considered high or low for a 1985? Thanks for your help.

I have a 1985 C27 with 723 hours.(runs great) It should not need any major work if the fuel has been maintained as clean as possible, and the oil is changed regularly.

not even broke in yet

I have an atomic 4 diesel with 1380 hours. Everyone I talk to without exception tells me 1500 hour on a marine diesel (providing all the nessesary services are done and documented) is just being broken in at that point and will have a long life ahead of it.

Running Time

Rule of thumb for engine hours in relation to car mileage....Average speed of an automobile is 40 mph. 465 hrs X 40mph = 18,600 auto miles....Like the responder said...ain't even broke in yet...
